Ferrari is an automotive myth with a history based entirely on competition. Enzo Ferrari, a self-taught driver, joined Alfa Romeo at the end of the 1920s and helped the brand to develop the P3, a successful machine in international competitions. The managers of the Lombardy firm then asked Enzo to take over the head of the Alfa Romeo sports department: Scuderia Ferrari was born!
Later, the Alfa racing cars will be badged with the "Prancing Horse". Alfredino, Enzo's son, developed a V6 engine with a central-rear position. Enzo then entrusted the production to Fiat, because the architecture did not correspond to the standards of the Scuderia. To emphasize the point, he decided to label them "DINO". The commercial success was so great that, later, Enzo developed the V6 by adding two cylinders: the first Dino with the V8 was presented. In 1975, Enzo introduced the first Ferrari equipped with the 3.0L V8: the 308 GTB with dry sump. The first versions had a polyester body, manufactured by Scaglietti. Named "Vetroresina", the unprofitable production forced Ferrari to turn to a steel body manufactured by Pininfarina. The car was produced in a little more than 2000 units.
At the end of the 70s, the "Targa" version, the GTS, was presented. It is this version that everyone will remember thanks to its appearance in the TV series Magnum, with Tom Selleck. The only modification on the 308 was the adoption of a wet sump.
Delivered in January 1978, this 308 GTB is in its original configuration with its Rosso Corsa color, its 14 inches rims, its Enrique NARDI three-spoke steering wheel, and its PIONEER radio with 4 speakers. This 308 GTB was imported to Monaco, then to France in 2017, to land among other classic Ferraris at the home of a passionate, knowledgeable collector of the Prancing Horse brand.
